TOPIC: The Joy of Trusting in God
TEXT: JEREMIAH 17:5-8 “Thus says the Lord, cursed is the man who trusts in man and make flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which not inhabited. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.”
There are two sets of human beings seen in this passage: the first set is those who put their trust in human beings and the second are those who put their trust in God despite the situation. Sometimes trusting in God may look ridiculous, but no matter what, trusting in God ought not to be partial. In Verse 7, God declared the man who trusts in Him blessed. The man who trusts in God is likened to a tree planted by the river side. This simply means a continual supply of nutrients. Its leaf remains greenish, signifying that he is full of life; not like the one in the desert that looks dried. The man who trusts in God is not afraid of anything, instead he keeps being fruitful: this means life in abundance. A man who puts his trust in God makes God his inheritance. He takes God as all he has without being moved by the worldly things.
We are taught by this passage to trust God in totality. Man is limited in ability but God is limitless. God does not reduce in size, in wisdom; neither does He reduce in knowledge nor possession. The earth is of the Lord and the fullness thereof. Verses 5 &6 described the terrible conditions of the man who trust in flesh. He is cursed, he is like a shrub in the desert, and he shall inhabit parched places in the wilderness, which signifies lack of fruitfulness. So trust God and be fruitful in His vine yard. Amen.
ACTION PRAYER: Lord, give your children the enabling grace to totally trust in you in all situations. We pray for vision as team and cause the work you have committed into her hand to be fruitful as we put our total trust in you in Jesus name. Amen.
