“Ignite the Light.” If you are a friend of Vision Africa, you’ve likely noticed this tagline on our logo, our website, and many of our communications. It’s special to us because it reminds us to never let the flame of our mission go out. It was inspired by the familiar song, “This Little Light of Mine”–taught to generations of children and close to the heart of our founder, Bishop Dr. Sunday Onuoha. “This little light of mine,” the lyrics say, “I’m gonna let it shine…Hide it under a bushel? No, I’m gonna let it shine…Let it shine around the world, we’re gonna let it shine. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.” The light the song speaks of is the love of God alive within us—a love that is so encompassing that it spurs us to return God’s love in unfailing service to others as a beacon for Him.
One of the blessings of this internal light is that it can manifest itself in a myriad of ways. Financial gifts may come to mind first, and they are certainly foundational to our ministry. But they are far from being the only avenue of service, and each of the others is as important and as gratefully received as money. Are you a prayer warrior? Join our prayer team to lift up all the prayer requests we receive from donors, friends, and those we serve! Our prayer team is also intentional about praying for Vision Africa itself—for our missions, for God’s direction, and for our events. Will you join us?
What about your time? Can you spare a few hours? If you live in or near the Dallas Metroplex or near Umuahia, Nigeria, or if you can travel to those cities, we’d love to meet you and work with you at our events! To join either the Volunteer Team or the Prayer Team or to receive more information, just email us at [email protected] or sign up on our website at www.visionafrica.org by clicking the “Get Involved” tab. Be sure to tell us where you can volunteer.
You can also help by introducing us to your contacts who might partner with us. Do you work for a company that has a donation matching program? Double your giving impact! Is your employer interested in donating equipment or supplies as a community service? Introduce us! Vision Africa is praying for hospital supplies, soccer equipment for the Waves team, sheet music and equipment for the choir, feminine hygiene supplies for the My Stain, No Shame program, laptop computers for the radio station, and even new generators as reliable power sources for the hospital and radio station. When goods or equipment is donated, shipping partners are always needed to transport the donations safely to Nigeria. Know anyone who would be blessed to help? Tell us about it at [email protected]!
Your influence goes farther than just your work environment, too. Are any of your personal physicians upgrading their equipment? Ask if they would be interested in donating the used equipment to the Vision Africa hospital! Do you have a friend or know a business that could donate gift cards for our fall raffle? Pass along our contact information!
What about your personal talents? Is God calling you to serve Him through the talents He has entrusted to you? Throughout our 25 years of service, Vision Africa has received thousands of hours of volunteer service from our friends and followers. Do you have training in the medical field? Take part in a medical mission! Are you a media professional? Help with our Media Institute! Are you an entertainer? The Vision Africa Radio Talent Show needs your advice! There are countless opportunities to serve. Interested? Email us your questions and areas of interest.
If none of these avenues is a good fit, there is still a simple, but significant way you can support Vision Africa—be an active follower on our social media pages. The more followers we have on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, the greater the audience we reach with our message and our mission. The more times our followers like and share our content, the more the platforms boost us and make our page available to more eyes. It’s a simple act that only takes a few seconds from your day. But it makes a tremendous difference in fulfilling Jesus’s Great Commission to “go and make disciples of all nations.” The VA social media pages are much more than vehicles for fundraising. They are vessels for God’s Word, God’s love, and God’s unfailing grace. Check out our pages today at the handle @visionafricaministries, like and share our content on your personal pages, and just be blessed by all the ways God is working in our daily lives.
Finally, don’t keep Vision Africa a secret! If you share our passion for providing medical care, clean water, care for the forgotten, leadership opportunities, God’s love over the airwaves, and an empowering voice to girls and young women, tell your friends about our work! Give them the opportunity to be blessed by being a life-saving partner in our mission. It may be a conversation that changes both your lives.
At Vision Africa, we often hear the question, “What can I do?” That’s often followed with “I don’t have much money,” or “I don’t know influential people,” or “the problems seem so big.” In answer, we have only to look to scripture to see how Jesus honored the widow’s mite, how He multiplied the five loaves and two fish, how God used the mustard seeds of faith of Noah and Jonah, how He turned the persecutions of Saul into the missions and letters of Paul, to see that God can bring tremendous blessing, honor, and glory from the offerings of One. Faithful. Life. Is yours that faithful life?
If you are called to “ignite your light,” Vision Africa is here to listen and here to help. Contact us today through our website, email, or social media channels. And thank you for making our mission possible.
